GGB's Privacy Statement

The protection of personal data (hereinafter also “Data”) is highly important to GGB. This Privacy Statement serves to inform you about how GGB is processing your personal data.

GGB processes your data in accordance with the applicable data protection laws, in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation – “GDPR”).

1. DATA PROCESSED AND PURPOSES OF PROCESSING
1.1 Usage data

When the website of GGB is accessed, the servers of GGB automatically store certain data of the accessing system. This includes the type of browser used, the browser version, the operating system used, the website from which the website of GGB is accessed, the controlled subpages of the website of GGB, the date and time of access, the internet protocol address (IP address), the internet service provider and data comparable with such data.

GGB uses this data to make the websites available, to detect and remove possibly occurring technical problems and to prevent and, if need be, prosecute any abuse of the services of GGB. The legal basis for the processing of personal usage data is our legitimate interest in operating our website securely and functionally.

1.2 Registration data (webshop)

The User must register to be able to use our webshop. Depending on the function desired, certain information is required for registration (e.g. name of User, e-mail address). We need this information to set up and manage the User account, identify authorized Users and to be able to offer the User the functions desired. The legal basis for processing the data outlined above is the requirement to decide on whether a contract is initiated and to execute such contract. Concerning data protection on our shop-site, please consult the privacy statement we provide there.

1.3 Use of cookies

The websites of GGB use cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on the User’s device and exchange certain settings and data with the system of GGB via the devices´ browser. A cookie normally contains the name of the domain from which the cookie data is sent and information on the validity of the cookie and an alphanumerical identifier. Cookies enable GGB to -depending on the technic used- to provide the website in an attractive manner and also facilitate its basic security and functionality, for example, by storing certain input such that it need not be entered repeatedly. The information stored in the cookies is not used to identify the User and is not combined with other personal data stored about the User. The legal basis for processing personal data thru cookies for a secure and functional website-operation is our legitimate interest herein.

Besides the cookies mentioned before, we may use further cookies for tracking and web analysis. The legal basis for the use of cookies of this latter category is your declaration of consent.

Google reCAPTCHA

With your consent, we use Google reCAPTCHA” (“reCAPTCHA”) on our websites. The provider is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google”). With reCAPTCHA we want to check whether data entries on our websites (e.g. in our login area) are executed by a human or by software. For this purpose, reCAPTCHA analyzes the behavior of the website visitor based on a number of characteristics. This happens automatically as soon as you visit our site. reCAPTCHA then evaluates various information (e.g. your IP address, how long you spend on our website or your mouse movements). The data collected during the analysis is transferred to Google.

As the USA are a so-called “third country” from a GDPR-perspective, measures have been implemented to ensure that an adequate level of data protection is safeguarded. Google has obtained certification under the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework. This means, that whenever data is transferred to or processed by Google in the US, a level of data protection comparable to the one within the EU may be assumed as present. We have entered into the required data protection agreement with Google. There is no separate indication that an analysis is being carried out.

We use reCAPTCHA based on your consent, which you can declare when entering our website via our consent management. Please note that interaction with our content is not possible or only possible to a limited extent if you do not consent to data processing using reCAPTCHA.

1.4 Web Analysis and Tracking

The web analysis and tracking services described below will only be used on the Websites if you have granted your express consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time with future effect. To withdraw your consent please click here.

1.4.1 Google Analytics

With your consent present, the websites of GGB may use functions of the web analysis service Google Analytics provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (“Google”). As the USA are a so-called “third country” from a GDPR-perspective, measures have been implemented to ensure that an adequate level of data protection is safeguarded. Google has obtained certification under the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework. This means, that whenever data is transferred to or processed by Google in the US, a level of data protection comparable to the one within the EU may be assumed as present. In addition, we have entered into a data protection agreement with Google, as required when having personal data processed by a legally separate entity. Google Analytics likewise uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about the use of this website is as a rule transferred to a Google server in the USA where it is further processed.

The websites of GGB use Google Analytics with the additional component “anonymize IP” and in Basic Consent Mode. This means that the IP address of the user collected by the Google Analytics cookie will usually be shortened by Google within Member States of the European Union or in other signatory states of the Treaty on the European Economic Area before being transferred to the USA. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. 

Google uses the information generated by Google Analytics on behalf of GGB to evaluate the use of the website, prepare reports on the website activities and to provide GGB with additional services associated with the use of the website and the internet. The IP address transferred by the browser of the accessing system as part of Google Analytics will, according to the information we have from Google, not be combined with other Google data. You may prevent Google from collecting the data generated by the cookie and pertaining to the use of the website or from processing this data by downloading and installing the browser plugin available via the following link (http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en). GGB does however point out that in this case it may be that not all functions of the website can be (fully) used. You may also prevent data being collected by Google Analytics by clicking on the following link. In this case an opt-out cookie is set that prevents  user data being collected upon future visits to the websites of GGB. 1.4.2.1 Pardot

With your consent, this website uses a marketing automation system provided by Pardot Inc., 1 Market St #300, San Francisco, USA("Pardot"). Pardot is a US-American company. As the USA are a so-called “third country” from a GDPR-perspective, measures have been implemented to ensure that an adequate level of data protection is safeguarded. Pardot has obtained certification under the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework. This means, that whenever data is transferred to or processed by Pardot in the US, a level of data protection comparable to the one within the EU may be assumed as present. In addition, we have entered into a data protection agreement with Pardot, as required when having personal data processed by a legally separate entity. Pardot is used to better understand the needs of (potential) customers and to operate a focused lead management. The generated information of the users is usually transferred to a server of Pardot, stored and evaluated. In detail, we use Pardot for the following activities:

To send our newsletters and other mailings. We point out that Pardot evaluates your user behaviour when sending the newsletter or other requested information on our behalf.

  •  Manage our opt in / opt out management.
  •  Collect statistical data on the use of our website. For this purpose, Pardot uses so-called "cookies".
  •  Pardot is also used to store data entered by you in forms contained on our website.

1.4.2.2 Microsoft Clarity

With your consent, we use Microsoft Clarity to better understand the needs of our users and optimize the experience on this website.  Clarity is a product of Microsoft Corporation, 1 Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA, USA. Clarity's technology gives us a better understanding of our users' experiences (e.g., how much time users spend on which pages, which links they click, what they like and don't like, etc.) and helps us tailor our offerings based on user feedback. Clarity works with cookies and other technologies to collect information about our users' behaviour and about their devices (in particular, IP address of the device (collected and stored only in anonymized form), screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), information about the browser used, location (country only), language preferred to view our website). Clarity stores this information in a pseudonymized user profile. As per the information available from Microsoft this information is neither used by Clarity nor by us to identify individual users, nor is it merged with other data Microsoft may have about individual users.

1.4.2.3 Google Remarketing

With your consent, our web pages use Google Remarketing, a software Analytics provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (“Google”), that serves to present users our advertising related to users’ interests. Google Remarketing uses cookies for this purpose (see above). You can revoke your consent and may change your settings for data processing in the context of cookies any time (click here).

Google Remarketing can also be technically stopped by the user by deactivating JavaScript and cookies in your web browser. 1.4.2.4
1.1. Google Doubleclick

With your consent present, our website may use DoubleClick, an online marketing tool provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House Barrow Street Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”). However, being a global network, Google may transfer your data to third countries, especially to the USA. Google is certified under the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework, which results in an adequate level of data protection. Additionally, we have entered an adequate data protection contract with Google to have the required instrument for data privacy present.

DoubleClick uses Cookies to place ads of relevance for the user, to improve reports on the performance of advertising campaigns and to avoid that users are presented ads repeatedly. Google uses a cookie-ID to identify which ads have been placed in which browser to prevent multiple repetitions. Additionally, Google may track so-called conversions which are related to ads. This means that Google can identify whether a user has interacted with an ad and if such interaction resulted in buying the respectively advertised item. As per Google, DoubleClick-cookies do not process personal information.

For reasons of the marketing technologies implemented, your browser will automatically establish a connection to Google´s servers. We may not influence the extent and the further use of data Google collects through this cookie and shall state that we inform our users based on the information available from Google: If DoubleClick is embedded, Google receives the information that a user has browsed the respective parts of our web content or that a user has clicked our ad. Should you be registered with a Google-service, Google may assign such interaction to your Google-account. Even if you should not be registered with Google or if you should have registered with Google but are currently not logged into your account, it is possible that Google may identify and further process your IP-address.

You may prevent participating in this web-tracking by:

Google Tag Manager

This website uses the Google Tag Manager. Google Tag Manager is a solution which helps site-operators to administer a websites surface. The Tag Manager itself (which implements the tags) does not collect personal data, but initiates firing other cookies which may collect personal data of their own. Such data, however, is not accessed by the Tag Manager. Should there have been a deactivation implemented on the level of cookies or files, the respective restriction will remain implemented for all these tags. We are using Google Tag Manager basing on your consent, Art. 6 I 1 a GDPR.

Webtrax (Thomasnet)

For our web-presence on thomasnet.com, we use the Tracking-Tool Webtrax provided by Thomas Publishing LLC 5 Penn Plaza, New York, NY 10001, USA. Thomas Publishing´s representative in the EU for data protection items is Genicad s.r.o, Voctarova 2449/5, Budova DOCK1, Praha 8 – Liben, 180 00, Czech Republic. The legal basis of this processing is your consent, which you may declare thru our consent-management and which you are free to revoke anytime,

When you are visiting our presence on thomasnet, data about your interactions with thomasnet.com and the profile we have there is collected. Such may contain your IP-address as well as the frequency of browsing, use of the website functions and your surfing behavior.

Via the insights-tool, Thomas composes and provides information regarding the behavior of users on the network. We are using this data to optimize our presence and to make it more attractive for potential visitors. The users´ IP-addresses, however, are not processed for this latter purpose. The user data we receive from Thomas are provided in an anonymized shape.

1.4.3 Tools with connection to other websites
1.4.3.1 Google Maps

With your consent, our web pages use Google Maps to show you the GGB contact person in your geographical vicinity. Google Maps is operated by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St., Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 4, D04 V4X7 Dublin, Ireland. 1.4.3.2 YouTube

YouTube is a video portal of YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA (hereinafter "YouTube"). We have integrated YouTube into our online services. When you activate a YouTube-video on our pages, your browser establishes a direct connection with the YouTube servers. This transfers the information to YouTube that your browser has visited the corresponding page of our online services, even if you do not have a YouTube account or are not logged into your account. This information is transferred directly from your browser to a YouTube server in the USA and stored there. The data transfer to YouTube is deactivated by default and will be activated only if you declare your respective consent.

If you are logged into your YouTube account at the same time, as per the information we have present from Google, it is also possible to assign the page view to your YouTube account, which means you would enable YouTube to assign your surfing behaviour directly to your personal profile.

If you wish to prevent this transfer and storage of your data from being executed and an identification and tracking of your behaviour on our online services by YouTube from happening, you must log out of YouTube before you visit our site and delete any cookies placed by YouTube.

1.5 Data transferred when contacting us (by form/ e-mail)

GGB’s websites provide Users with the option to contact GGB. The personal data transferred to GGB in this connection are exclusively used to handle the respective enquiries. 

We collect the following mandatory data as part of our contact form:

  • Subject of your request
  • First Name/ Last Name
  • Postal Code
  • Country
  • E-Mail
  • Product your request relates to
  • Message

The legal basis for processing the data outlined above, depends on the subject you are contacting us for. This usually will be for purposes of initiating or executing a contract or your declaration of consent which you declare by submitting your request in any further case. 

1.6 Links to social media accounts

We are active on social media, particularly on YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter.

On our website you will find links to the social media services of LinkedIn, X (formerly: and YouTube. You can identify links to the websites of social media services by the respective company icon. If you follow these links, you will reach GGB´s corporate presence on the respective social media service. When you click on a link to a social media service, a connection is established to the servers of the social media service. This informs the social media services´ servers that you have visited our website. In addition, further data is transferred to the provider of the social media service. This includes, for example, the address of the website on which the activated link is placed, the date and time the website was accessed, or the link was activated, information about the browser used, the operating system used and the IP address.

If you are already logged in to the respective social media service at the time the link is activated, the provider of the social media service may be able to determine your username and potentially even your real name from the data transferred and may assign this information to your personal user account on the social media service. You can exclude this potential assigning of information we have from the social networks to your personal user account by logging out from your user account on the social media service beforehand.

The servers of the social media services may be located in the USA and other countries outside the European Union and process your data there. Please note that companies in these countries are subject to data protection laws that may generally not protect personal data to the same extent as those in member states of the European Union. However, the US-based social networks we are having accounts with are certified under the Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework, so that data protection in line with the EU is safeguarded. Please note that we have no influence on the scope, type, and purpose of data processing by the provider of the social media service. You can find further information about the use of your data by the social media services integrated on our website in the data protection declaration of the respective social media service.

Insofar as we have control over the processing of your data, we ensure that the applicable data protection regulations are complied with.

2. STORAGE PERIOD (PERSONAL DATA IN GENERAL)

Usage data will be stored for a period of 18 months. The data outlined above will otherwise be erased once it is no longer required for the described purposes, provided statutory provisions do not stipulate a longer retention period. This means, that your data is usually retained until applicable retention periods have expired. Such retention may last for e.g. 6 months in case of a job application with our German branch and up to 10 years in regard of applying statutory retention in regard of tax law.

III. DATA PROTECTION INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
1. DATA PROCESSED AND PURPOSES OF PROCESSING

GGB processes in particular the following categories of personal data:

  • Contact information, in particular salutation, first and last name, e-mail address, your motivation to apply and a CV.
  • Further information you may provide on a voluntary basis, such as, e.g., qualification-related information, copies of reports and certificates you may upload, etc.
  • photos attached to the application, if any.

In principle, GGB collects these data directly from you. In singular cases GGB receives personal data about you from third parties such as e.g. staffing agencies we may cooperate with.

GGB processes this data if and to the extent required for carrying out the application and recruitment process. The legal basis for this is the requirement for a decision on whether a labour-contract is initiated,

If you apply to a specific vacancy, only the company specified therein receives your data. If you send us an unsolicited application, we will transfer your data to any GGB-Group-company which may find your profile suitable to staff a current vacancy, in any case we ensure, that only the persons and functions objectively requiring your data for the purposes mentioned may access your data.

Once the recruiting process has been completed your data will be retained for a maximum period of 6 months for purposes evidence for the due handling of your data as per the underlying legal requirements and will then be erased or anonymised.

IV. DATA PROTECTION INFORMATION FOR BUSINESS CONTACTS
1. DATA PROCESSED AND PURPOSES OF PROCESSING

GGB processes the following categories of personal data in regard to our business-relationship, in particular when exchanging business cards, in letter heads or signatures in business communication:

    ID information, in particular first and last name, title (if any), job description, respective sector and company, and

    contact information, in particular professional address, phone number and e-mail-address …. Any further personal data you may submit.

Generally, GGB collects these Data directly from you, as you submit them to us. In some cases, GGB receives personal data about you from your employer who is our primary business-partner or from third parties, e.g., via recommendations issued by (other) customers, vendors, suppliers, and business contacts or via participant lists from trade fair organizers (the latter basing on the consent you have issued for our benefit towards such organizer).

GGB processes this data to initiate or execute a business relationship with your company. The legal basis of this processing is the initiation or execution of a contract, respectively your consent.

2. STORAGE PERIOD (BUSINESS CONTACTS)

The Data specified above will be erased as soon as it is no longer required for the described purposes or if legal provisions do not require further retention. Usually, your data is deleted from our systems, as soon as we become aware that you have left our partners´ business, if not a further retention is required for reasons of law. 

V. TRANSFER OF DATA TO EXTERNALS AND TRANSFER OF DATA TO THIRD COUNTRIES

GGB may receive assistance from (external) service providers for certain purposes, such as, e.g., technical data analysis or in further cases where we are cooperating with data processors. These service providers are carefully selected and meet high data protection and data security standards. They are obligated to maintain strict confidentiality and process personal data only when and to the extent commissioned to do so by GGB and according to GGB’s instructions. This means that an adequate instrument of data protection, such as, e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses are entered into with any data processor prior to any data being processed. In some cases, we are obliged to share your data with other third parties, such as public authorities or else. The legal basis, here, is our respective legal obligation.

GGB may transfer your data to countries other than the one of your residence. If you are an EU-citizen, this may mean that your data is transferred outside EU or the European Economic Area. To ensure that your data is subject to protection no lesser than it would be with the EU, we are establishing the required instruments of data protection beforehand of any such data transfer.

Where so required, the transfer of your data to third countries is subject to your consent (e.g. use of cookies beyond the scope of cookies needed to operate our website in a technically safe and functional manner).

As a data subject, you are entitled to certain rights as per the data protection law applying: This is the right to data access, rectification, deletion, withdrawal of consent into a data processing, objection against a data processing, data portability and the right to not being subject to a fully automated decision (the latter does not take place at GGB).
