Best known for their metal-polymer offerings, GGB Bearing Technology (formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings) now introduces a line of solid polymer materials, which are already being used successfully across a wide range of applications.
Consisting of nine different materials developed in-house by our own experts, GGB’s EP® series of precision injection-molded bearings are made of a variety of high performance engineering resins with the addition of solid lubricants and reinforcing fibers.
The lightweight, corrosion-resistant bearings provide low friction and excellent wear resistance across a wide range of both dry and lubricated operating conditions and are based on environmental friendly polymers, characterized by a low friction coefficient, high-pressure resistance and low wear. Exhibiting high dimensional stability, compressive strength and creep resistance, the GGB’s EP® series also offers low thermal expansion and good thermal conductivity.
The properties of GGB EP® solid polymer materials allow them to be used across a range of industries in many different types of applications such as domestic appliances, awnings and blinds, apparatus engineering, industrial fittings, slot machines and valves. Included in the GGB line of solid polymer bearings is EP73®, a PAI-based material modified with graphite and PTFE. EP73® is used in automotive applications such as automatic gears, pumps, sealing for turbo compressors, piston rings and valve seats, in addition to industrial applications, including continuous ovens and ovens for drying coatings. The EP73® material is used in the aerospace industry to replace aluminum and metal alloys for weight savings in applications such as turbojet engine compressor blades.
GGB in Germany is a Center of Excellence for solid polymer bearing technology. Offering extensive experience and technical expertise, GGB works closely with customers to develop optimized, application-specific bearing solutions using the science of tribology. State-of-the-art, in-house testing capabilities allow for prototype experimentation, making it possible to evaluate the bearing materials and fine-tune application parameters.
Our bearing experts are available at locations all over the world, assisting customers in the selection of the most suitable material for their specific application, developing the overall system design and providing prototypes made of semi-finished material and injection-molded parts for serial production.
Because the parts are injection-molded, there are virtually no limits in terms of shape, size and special features, including notches, grooves, snap-fit, halfshell and overmolded.
