Bearings and Bushings are Made from what Metal?

GGB produces four different types of bearings, plus self-aligning bearing housing assemblies.

METAL POLYMER BEARINGS

Metal-polymer plain bearings feature a unique composite structure that consists of a steel or bronze backing for mechanical strength, a porous sintered bronze interlayer for high wear resistance and an anti-friction overlay impregnated with a homogeneous mixture of PTFE and fillers or extruded thermoplastic tape.

The structure and overlay composition of each bearing product is specifically designed to offer distinct properties to meet the performance requirements of different applications.

ENGINEERED PLASTIC BEARINGS

Engineered plastic bearings are made of a variety of resins compounded with reinforcing fibers and solid lubricant.

Our EP® series of bearings are injection molded, enabling us to offer virtually unlimited dimensions and special designs and features. These bearings provide excellent wear resistance and low friction in both dry and lubricated operating conditions, and offer high dimensional stability, compressive strength and creep resistance, low thermal expansion and good thermal conductivity.

FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITE BEARINGS

Fiber reinforced composite bearings typically consist of a filament-wound, fiberglass-impregnated epoxy backing with a variety of low-friction, wear-resistant linings. Their reinforced composite structure supports high static and dynamic loads, and their inert nature makes them ideal for corrosive environments such as seawater.

Environmentally friendly bearings specifically developed for hydropower applications have high load capacity, excellent resistance to shock, edge loading and corrosion, and dimensional stability.

METAL & BIMETAL BEARINGS - BRONZE BUSHINGS

Metal and bimetal bearings include a broad range of monometallic, bimetallic bearings and sintered bronze bushings, which are ideal for both land-based and under water industrial applications.

Our oil-impregnated solid bronze bearings are designed for use in maintenance-free operations under moderately high speeds and low loads. Designed for lubricated applications, our mono- and bimetallic bearings are suitable for use in a wide range of operating conditions.

SELF-ALIGNING BEARING ASSEMBLIES

Bearing assemblies offset misalignment by up to ± 5° to reduce edge loading and premature wear. Available in various configurations with different housings, GGB self-aligning bearings can be combined with our bearing materials to provide optimal design solutions for numerous applications.

  • Made of cast iron, EXALIGN® bearing housings are designed for bearings with IDs of 10mm to 100 mm.
  • MINI pillow block bearings are made of aluminum alloy with steel balls for use with bearings with IDs of 8 mm to 15 mm.
  • UNI self-aligning bearing housings are made of cast iron with steel balls for bearings with IDs from 8 mm to 100 mm.
