GGB is well known in the bearing world as a strong leader, and in 2008 I had the privilege of beginning my employment with GGB.
How did you begin your career in the bearing industry?
I began my employment in 1997 working as manufacturing engineer for a roller bearing company, which allowed me to continue my education at night and pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Afterwards I was employed by another bearing company, where I continued until joining GGB.
What was your main interest in working for GGB?
GGB is well known in the bearing world as a strong leader, and in 2008 I had the privilege of beginning my employment with GGB. I always enjoyed providing engineering support to my customers. I started my career at GGB as an applications engineer, advancing to sales engineer in 2010. Since 2014 I have served as a product manager for fiber reinforced composite bearings
What does your role as product manager for fiber reinforced composite bearings involve?
The role of a product manager is to run a business within a business with responsibility for the total customer experience. It is a cross-functional role that involves defining, developing and managing a product portfolio. A product manager is closely connected to the market and customers, identifying their needs, defining the product’s attributes and collaborating with R&D to develop new products. The product manager also has responsibility for market research, launch strategy and life cycle management.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your position?
One of the challenges is clear, ongoing cross-functional communication within the organization. Other challenges include monitoring competition, staying abreast of the constantly evolving global market, shortening the development cycle and acquiring needed resources.
What aspects of your position do you find most rewarding?
To be able to connect with customers, communicate their needs and develop solution to them brings me the upmost satisfaction. Since GGB customers are located around the globe and in multiple markets, each case presents new challenges, making the entire experience interesting and rewarding.
